Oxygen provides energy when released in combustion, and also bonds with hydrogen to create Water. It is created by plants, as well as from processing Ice (Oxite). It is highly flammable at low temperatures.

Oxygen, also referred to as O₂, is the basic gas necessary for human survival. It is is released when smelting certain ore (such as gold) or by melting Oxite. It is also produced by plants in hydroponic trays or the hydroponics station when they photosynthesize.

Oxygen will condense into Liquid Oxygen starting at 162 K (-111.1 °C). The boiling point of Oxygen is 90 K (-183.1 °C) at 100 kPa.

Pure Oxygen auto-ignites at 573.15 K (300.0 °C) when in atmosphere at any pressure where volatile gases are present. This may be caused by activating a gas-powered welder, engaging any type of crafting stations working with metal (such as an autolathe), or using any firearm, either of which will create a local temperature spike and the follow-up chain reaction.

Oxygen is mainly used in sustaining human life, either in the ambient atmosphere when your helmet is open, or in your suit's oxygen tank. Oxygen's other roles are in the creation of fuel, as well as Nitrous Oxide through the use of a Nitrolyzer.

Notes

When used as oxidizer in rocket fuel, oxygen has a mass of 62.4 mol/kg.
